Upcoming Events & Promotions - The Missing Clue - December

Gifts From Us to You

Michael has spent several days wrapping books.  As a result, just as we did last year, we have gifts for you, our customers, for shopping with us this Holiday season. If you spend $25 or more in the store this December, we will be happy to give you one of these mystery mystery books. They are colour coded by theme, but supplies are limited, so if you want to be sure to get an extra "Women Detective between the World War" mystery, be sure to visit us quickly this December. And if you loved a book you received last year and that helped you find a new series, make sure you tell us about it.

January Author Event – Michael Hartley

On Sunday, January 14th 2018 at 3pm we will be hosting a reading and signing with local author Michael Hartley in promotion of his latest book, Windfall. Come out in the cold of winter to hear Michael talk about his latest Ryan Moar book, and his adventures in tropical Zanzibar.

February Used Book Sale

We’ll be having our usual February book sale with exact dates to be announced. Check this space in February’s ‘The Missing Clue’ or look for announcements in store and on the website.

Recent Events - The Missing Clue - October 2017

This autumn, we have been very happy to welcome two different authors. First, we had a drop-in visit with Gail Bowen, who was, as always, a wonderful guest. She was happy to talk about her books, the latest of which The Winner’s Circle (in stock $32) is in hardcover. She also let us know that she will be releasing a new book called Sleuth, which is a reflection on her experience writing crime fiction.

Our launch event with Jana Rieger for A Course in Deception (in stock, trade paperback $20) followed shortly after, and was a wonderful chance for us to introduce customers to a new Canadian author. Along with her collaborator Toviyah John, Jana entertained a full house with a reading and with an open willingness to answer questions, not just about her book, but also about the process of transitioning a book into other mediums. We look forward to seeing what she has to offer us next.

Stay tuned for more information about what is going on at WhoDunit? this autumn by following us on Twitter and Facebook.

The Missing Clue - April 2017 - Authors for Indies

Authors For Indies: Saturday, April 29th

For the third year in a row, we are proud to be involved in Authors for Indies! This year it will be held on Saturday, the 29th of April, and we will be happily announcing more details soon.  One exciting addition to this year is an increased participation from the publishers.  Follow us on Facebook, twitter, or by visiting the store for more information about the offers and details of the day! We’ll also send out an email blast closer to the date to remind you.

The Missing Clue - December 2016 - Allan Levine at Whodunit

We were very pleased that Allan Levine could come to Whodunit on Sunday, November 27th to read from his new book and to sign books. The Bootlegger’s Confession is the first title in a new trilogy set in Winnipeg featuring private detective Sam Klein. Klein appeared in Levine’s earlier trilogy which began with the The Blood Libel. The Bootlegger’s Confession is set in 1922, three years after Prohibition had become law in the United States and by this time the business of moving liquor south across the 49th parallel had become entrenched on the prairies.  In talking about how he wrote the book Allan made it clear how much his fiction writing benefited from his work as a historian. A thoroughly entertaining, illuminating and enjoyable afternoon.

For those unable to make the event we do have autographed copies available for sale in the store.

Advent Promotion: The Gift of Reading

To get ourselves into the holiday spirit, and show our appreciation for you, our customers, We will once again be giving away free books!

We have collected up the year’s Advanced Readers Copies, wrapped them up, and will be including one in each purchase of $20 or more.  They run the gamut of theme, origin, and period, so if you are choosing for yourself, or getting a little extra to go underneath the tree, we have colour coded the wrapping for guidance.  However, just as with any gift, the best part of it is the surprise.

The Missing Clue - April 2016 - Upcoming Events

RESHELVING SALE
As those of you who have visited us recently will have noticed, we are constantly challenged by the size of the store, and the amount of shelving that it has. Over the next few months, we are going to be embarking on a few projects that we hope will help us increase the useable space.

Our first project is to change the size of the shelves on the walls in the front of our store to be able to put larger paperbacks on them, and keep more of an author’s books in the same place.

To celebrate this and to make the transition easier, we are going to have a sale of the books currently on those shelves. From April 1st to 17th, all the paperbacks on those wall shelves will be 15% off (you will not receive stamps for these purchases). Please note this sale will exclude the new release shelves that face the entrance. We hope that you will find something that you will like, or had your eye on, and make it easier for us to change the size of the shelves by having fewer books to move.

AUTHORS FOR INDIES
We are excited to once again host an event in conjunction with “Authors for Indies”, this year on Saturday, April 30th! Last year, many of you came and enjoyed Catherine MacDonald’s lecture on mystery writing and the historical research behind her series beginning with Put on the Armour of Light.  She will be returning this year, but will not be alone.  We are thrilled to announce that Doug Whiteway, who writes crime fiction as CC Benison, will also be joining us on the 30th!

More details to come through Facebook, our website, and authorsforindies.com.

GOWNS FOR GRADS
Whodunit is now a drop off point for Gowns for Grads. If you have a dress that you do not have any further use for that would be appropriate for grad, please consider donating it to this worthy cause. Accessories are also greatly appreciated. More details of this venture, which is an initiative of the Laura Milner White Committee, can be found on Facebook or you can ask us next time you are in the store.

AUTHOR EVENT: ANGELA MISRI
Angela Misri, author of the Portia Adams mysteries, (a Sherlockian pastiche), will be in Winnipeg as part of TD Book week.  We are excited to announce that she will be doing an event at Whodunit on Wednesday, May 11th at 7pm!   Those of you interested in pastiche, in writing for young adults, or just in meeting and hearing from new authors will want to mark this on your calendars.
